I love it when people contradict themselves with out even realizing it. I stumbled across a blog recently that talked about fear and how it should not be used a a mechanism for protection.
Here is a good quote.. " I don't understand the fear of the borders."
Along with some ramblings about Homeland Security, the 9-11 event, Patriot Act and how fear is used to promote these protective type activities.
Followed by a posting on the same website that talks about network security and how to protect yourself and your network..
Is this a contradiction? I would like to think yes... Can you say flip flopper?
So, my point, here is that if you are not fearful, then why build a fire wall? No one is going to attack your network, unless they have a legitimate grievance against you!

Oh snap! You got some sharp eyes there. Then again, if you had clicked on the firewall link, your questions would have been answered right in the first paragraph
"There are a lot of reasons why you would want to build your own firewall instead of just using that Linksys internet router. The biggest reason is control, and a close runner up is the fun of doing it. By building a linux firewall (or BSD if you are so inclined), so many more options open up to you. One thing that I like to do is deny all traffic from people that port scan my system. This is pretty simple if you use IPTables, and Portsentry. The Linux Server"
Sounds like the author had other things in mind than fear of being attacked.
