Pay Raise for Lawmakers?

How would you like to have a $4,700 cost-of-living increase starting in January? Well, it looks like our congressmen and women will get one. How much will this cost the taxpayers? $2.5 million.

Oh yeah! Where's my bailout?

Virginia Gun Sales

From the VCDL mini-update

Member Gary Smith of Handgun Hunter Magazine sent us the latest
statistic on Virginia gun sales. I'm proud to say that a number of
VCDL members, including me, contributed to the count. Gary wrote:

I thought you might like to know this statistic. In November the VASP
processed nearly 40,000 gun purchases. This set a new record for
monthly purchases. The previous record was in Dec. 1993 and was
32,000+ purchases.

Gee, I wonder why so many guns were sold?

Beware the Facebook Worm...

If you are a facebook user take heed.. Don't run the java update and be ready to de bug your box!

Got this from a friend and am running it now!

I
ran a malwarebytes scan to remove my worm, and then immediately rebooted.
I then ran a Norton scan that showed clean.  But I still had to correct
the proxy settings in my browsers (I use both IE and Firefox) and I found that
info in a blog. Here is the excerpt from the blog that explains the proxy
setting fix:

It also modifies the Proxy to http=127.0.0.1:8181

To fix this:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan
Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy
server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab
-> "Settings" under Connection.

This link
explains more about it…and gives a complete manual fix – which may or may not
also do the proxy fix above.  I did not go this route, so I can’t say for
sure. This site does have a link to the malwarebytes download, if you want to
try it.

Change we can belive in?

Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'

Editor, Times-Dispatch:

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said "Praise the Lord." And when the young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

Would we?

An election carol

*'Twas the night before elections*
*And all through the town*
*Tempers were flaring*
*Emotions all up and down!*
**
*I, in my bathrobe*
*With a cat in my lap*
*Had cut off the TV*
*Tired of political crap.*
**
*When all of a sudden*
*There arose such a noise*
*I peered out of my window*
*Saw Obama and his boys*
**
*They had come for my wallet*
*They wanted my pay*
*To give to the others*
*Who had not worked a day!*
**
*He snatched up my money*
*And quick as a wink*
*Jumped back on his bandwagon*
*As I gagged from the stink*
**
*He then rallied his henchmen*
*Who were pulling his cart*
*I could tell they were out*
*To tear my country apart!*
**
*' On Fannie, on Freddie, *
*On Biden and Ayers!*
*On Acorn, On Pelosi'*
*He screamed at the pairs!*
**
*They took off for his cause*
*And as he flew out of sight*
*I heard him laugh at the nation*
*Who wouldn't stand up and fight!*
**
*So I leave you to think*
*On this one final note-*
*IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM*
*GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!*

Rental Cars

One of the fun things about traveling is rental cars. We got a PT cruiser. Kind of cool set of wheels. Crackerz at 4am said she felt like a gangster. Well the PT cruise in my humble opinion is lacking on many different levels.
1. Comfort: Not very comfortable on longer trips front buckets did not contour to the body.
2. Gas mileage: Did not see 28 mpg more like 22
3. Space: Glad we only have 1 kid. A second would have required a kiddie seat on the roof. Trunk space was a little tight and leg room in the back was lacking.. Had to get back there during a traffic jam to feed the young one.
4. Oh shit handle: Need one on the passenger side.
5. Performance: Turning radius needs improvement and "balls" it has none. Needed all of the acceleration lane on the highway to get up to speed. Did not want to stay at highway speeds, always needed the foot on the pedal. Actually slowed when going down steep grades while foot was off the gas. Needed to put into neutral to accelerate. Almost felt like a gearing issue.

Anyhow I did drive it like a rental!! Yowza!!

Taxes

Another good one from our friend Roger.

Maybe we should really push for the fair tax?
This election year look long and hard at your candidates. Are they out for your best interest?

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.
If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

'Since you are all such good customers, he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each MAN'S bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay!

And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16%savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20, 'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money among all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Norofolk Just can't get it right!

On a positive note, the city is observant as to those who are carrying
weapons.

Hours after Norfolk City Hall visit, gun advocate is detained

By Debbie Messina
The Virginian-Pilot
(c) October 8, 2008
NORFOLK

Hours after guns-rights activists marched on City Hall to demand police
leave them alone, they said one was charged after refusing an order to
leave Waterside because he was openly carrying a weapon.

Danladi Moore - whom the city paid $10,000 in July to avoid litigation
after being stopped by police for suspected weapons violations - was
charged with trespassing at the downtown entertainment complex Tuesday
night.

The 24-year-old Hampton resident said police told him to leave because
he had a gun. Moore said he refused because the law allows him to
display a weapon in public places. He said he was handcuffed, charged
and led out of the building.

Norfolk police spokesman Officer Chris Amos confirmed that a summons was
issued but declined to comment further.

Waterside receives city funding but is officially owned by a private
entity, Waterside Associates, whose partners include the Norfolk
Redevelopment and Housing Authority, said NRHA assistant executive
director John Kownack. Its policy prohibits weapons, yet weapons are not
included on a list of prohibitions posted at Waterside's entrances, he
added.

The incident happened after about a dozen members of the Virginia
Citizens Defense League finished dinner at the Hooters restaurant at
Waterside. Earlier, they had joined about 50 others at a City Council
meeting to complain that their rights had been violated by police.

Most of them were openly carrying guns, but only Moore and his two
friends were approached, members of the group said.

Philip Van Cleave, who leads the guns-rights group and was with Moore at
Waterside but did not witness the exchange, said it was unbelievable.

"I don't see a conspiracy here - I see more ineptness," he said. "And
there may well be prejudice too."

Moore is black. Van Cleave and most of the others are white.

Moore said a friend who was with him at Waterside also was carrying a
gun and also had challenged police when asked to leave. He said his
friend, who is white, was not charged.

John Pierce, co-founder of the national group OpenCarry.org, said, "Even
if this was a perfectly innocent mistake, the timing could not have been
worse."

Campaign Finance:
Sources of more than $190 million in Obama election contributions are unidentified. Will a federal investigation find foreigners illegally rigging the most important presidential election in history?

Newsmax reported last week that Sen. Barack Obama's campaign has collected "the largest pool of unidentified money that has ever flooded into the U.S. election system, before or after the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reforms of 2002."

Federal Election Commission data show that some $222 million of the cash Obama has collected came in the form of contributions of $200 or less, with the Democratic nominee's campaign identifying the donors of less than $40 million of that sum.

Campaigns may accept donations of less than $200 without providing the donors' names and addresses in campaign finance reports, but Sen. John McCain's camp has made its full donor database available on the Internet. Independent campaign finance watchdog organizations have asked the Obama campaign to list all its donors, as well, but it's refused. What is Obama hiding?

The Republican National Committee is making the most of this disclosure gap, filing a complaint with the FEC, demanding that it investigate the sources of Obama's thousands of unknown donors and look into possible illegal foreign donations.

Major media have jumped on the story, with Newsweek noting that FEC auditors ordered Obama's campaign to return large amounts from sources with fake names. One phony was "Good Will," who listed "Loving" as his employer and "You" as his job. The address given was found to be that of the Austin-based nonprofit Goodwill Industries, which informed the Obama campaign last month that its name was pparently being used fraudulently.

Another made-up name: "Doodad Pro." His listed address is a Nunda, N.Y., liquor store next to the now-closed Doodad Boutique.

More disturbing was $33,000 paid for Obama campaign T-shirts by two Palestinian brothers from Gaza who listed "Ga." as their address, which the campaign took to be the state of Georgia. The purchase is considered a campaign donation.

This week, CBS News discovered two Obama contributors who gave $7,722 using fake identities, "Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii," employed by "CZXVC/ZXVZXV" and "Uadhshgu Hduadh of Dhff, Fla.," who works for

The Newsmax report noted a separate FEC database of more than 11,500 overseas contributions to Obama totaling $33.8 million, with more than 520 listing their locations as "IR," a possible abbreviation for Iran. (The Associated Press noted that "In FEC reports, the designation 'IR' typically stands for 'information requested' because the donor did not supply it.

Sixty-three listings had "UK" as the donor's location. Other locales apparently providing money for Obama included Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa, Beijing and Fallujah, as well as France and Italy.

Obama's Web site formerly let donors choose from among every United Nations member when listing their residence. By contrast, the presidential campaign of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton actually required U.S. citizens residing abroad to fax a copy of their passport before accepting their donations. Federal law prohibits the acceptance of campaign contributions from foreign nationals.

In the summer, the head of Nigeria's stock market held a series of fundraisers believed to have collected $900,000 — ostensibly to pay for some Nigerians' attendance at the Democratic convention in Denver. A Nigerian government commission is now investigating.

Do the "Doodads," "Good Wills," "Dahsudhu Hdusahfds" and Nigerian money men form only the tip of the iceberg? The hundreds of millions this supposed "man of the people" has raised is an astonishing sum, with a large percentage coming from unknown sources.

Obama might say he doesn't know who any of these people are, so it is absurd to suggest he would be a president in the pocket of anti-American foreigners he doesn't know.

But they know him. Many foreign powers would give a fortune to install a far-left president

Gotta love a marine!!

True story or not...it still a good one! I've had college professors just like this one...hmmmm!

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. The professor of one of the classes was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, “God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this podium. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes.” The lecture hall fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.

Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, “Here I am God. I'm still waiting.” It was down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him, knocking him off the platform.

The Marine resumed his seat and sat there, patiently. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, “What the heck is the matter with you? Why did you do that?” The Marine calmly replied, “God was busy protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So, He sent me in answer your prayer.”

Seizing the momentum

From a friend of ours.. Makes a good point! I am all for the FAIR TAX
Nutz

It's never hard to be under-whelmed by the logic on either side of the Presidential campaign on any issue; however, in today's Pilot
(page 3), both candidates failed miserably to respond with a plan to
lead this country out of the economic mess we're in. It doesn't matter
who caused the meltdown: Wall street tycoons, unscrupulous lenders,
Republicans or Democrats. The issue to be dealt with by the next
president is how do we begin building a solid, bottom-up, economic
recovery? Period. No more moaning or finger pointing!

Either candidate could have seized the moment and
proposed the adoption of the FAIR TAX, but neither did. As bad as the
economy is getting, it is going to take a revolutionary idea to fix the
problem. The FAIR TAX would eliminate the IRS, federal personal and
corporate income tax and levy a 22% sales tax on every transaction
involving the purchase of new merchandise or assets. What does this
tax change accomplish?

First, we remove the tax consequences of making more money. You "take home" what you make. It's that simple.

Secondly, the FAIR TAX ensures that everyone in the
country is paying his fair share, from illegal immigrants to trust fund
babies. The sales tax is collected at the point of purchase and it
doesn't matter how many tax attorneys or CPA's you can afford, it's
still 22% on all new cars, boats, houses and clothes. How much tax do
you pay on a used car? None.

Thirdly, the FAIR TAX will create a rush by
business owners and wealthy individuals world wide to emigrate to the
US. Why? No personal income tax and no corporate taxes. Will they
bring their businesses with them? You bet. Will those businesses
employ Americans? You bet. Will that cause a rise in real wages?
Yes, and that is exactly what is needed to help solve the problem that
is at the core of the current crisis: the crash in real estate prices
and over-extended personal debt.

America will have to work itself out of the jam
we're in, but we'll need help to do it. The FAIR TAX is the foundation
on which to build a bottom-up economic recovery!

Who am I?

Who Am I? I am under 45 years old, I love the outdoors, I hunt, I am a Republican reformer, I have taken on the Republican Party establishment, I have many children, I have a spot on the national ticket as vice president with less than two years in the governor's office.

Chet Back in the News

Looks like Chet is still doing battle with the city of Norfolk... Good on ya my friend.. However I question exactly what the Federal Judge's line of thinking was in his ruling hi-lited below.

NORFOLK

The arrest of a man for openly carrying a gun at a Norfolk festival
did not violate the U.S. Constitution but the police officer who asked
for the man's Social Security number might have violated his civil
rights, a federal judge ruled this week.

Chester "Chet" Szymecki Jr. of Yorktown sued the city after his
arrest in June 2007 on a charge of violating a city ordinance
prohibiting firearms at Harborfest, held annually at Town Point Park.

Szymecki, a gun rights advocate, has challenged handgun bans in the
past. During his arrest, Szymecki claims police pushed him and that
when he complained that the handcuffs were on too tight, an officer
made them tighter.

During his arrest and later, when he was released from custody,
police asked him for his Social Security number. He initially balked,
but gave it to the officers to avoid being detained longer, he says in
his suit.

The charge was later thrown out after city officials learned that it
violated a state law that prohibits localities from regulating firearms.

Szymecki sued in federal court claiming multiple constitutional
violations, including the Second Amendment's right to keep and bear
arms and the Fourth Amendment prohibition against unlawful searches and
seizures.

U.S. District Judge Henry Coke Morgan Jr. ruled Thursday that
Szymecki cannot sue claiming constitutional violations under state or
local law. Morgan ruled earlier this year that the city did not violate
the Second Amendment for the same reason.

"It is well settled law in this circuit that the Second Amendment
does not apply to the states,"
Morgan wrote in dismissing Szymecki's
constitutional claims. "Because the Second Amendment does not apply to
the states, neither a state law nor a local ordinance can run afoul of
any right guaranteed by the Second Amendment."

However, Morgan ruled that the police demand for Szymecki's Social
Security number - if the allegation is true - would have violated the
federal Privacy Act.

Morgan will allow the case to go to trial on that issue alone. The trial has been set for Dec. 16.

Oil Spills Ravage LA Coast....

A friend sent this letter to the local city council members...

Makes you think a little..

"In the Aftermath of Hurricane Gustav, Tragic Oil Spills
Ravage LA Coast!"

Sorry, that's one headline that is not in today's news
because there was no news. Not one drop of oil was released
into the environment
due to the passing of Gustav's 115 mph winds
through the Gulf of Mexico on Monday.

The sophistication of today's oil and gas exploration and
production technology allows the extraction of these vital energy sources
without damage to the environment, even during the worst weather that mother
nature can create.

If we continue to buy oil from people who want to kill us,
then that's probably what's going to happen in the long run. Developing
our own natural resources is not just a matter of economics, it's a matter of
national security.

The City Council of Virginia Beach has the opportunity to be
part of the solution, not part of the problem. Please remember this fact
during the meeting to discuss drilling off our coast on Thursday.

Well I hope the city does not screw the pooch on this one. Would be nice to see tennis courts and a swimming pool.. If only there was a little vision.. This would be a great spot for a jeep jamboree or a beer festival. Just remember to pack heat!!

From Dick Morris.com

SWEET PICK! KUDOS TO MCCAIN FOR CHOOSING SARAH PALIN FOR HIS VP

McCain has reached for the stars and grabbed one. On a recent cruise to Alaska, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Sarah Palin. She is brilliant and articulate and, in Alaska politics, is a breath of fresh air as an alternative to their corruption epitomized by Alaska Republican Senator Ted Stevens. Now Obama, who has spent two years preventing a woman from being president, will spend two months preventing one from becoming vice president – and hopes to do so with women votes. The entire premise of the Democratic convention was the fungibility of Bush and McCain. Now McCain has vividly demonstrated the difference. Sarah Palin is no Dick Cheney!

Crazy Crumbs New School

Crackerz and I have found the perfect school for our daughter...

She will make a good Texas girl!!

HARROLD, Texas (AP) - A tiny Texas district
will allow teachers and staff members to carry concealed firearms to
deter and protect against school shootings when classes begin this month, provided the gun-toting employees follow certain requirements.

The small community of Harrold in north Texas is a 30-minute drive from
the Wilbarger County Sheriff's Office, leaving students and teachers
without protection, said David Thweatt, superintendent of the Harrold
Independent School District. The lone campus of the 110-student
district sits near a heavily traveled highway, which could make it a
target, he argued.

"When the federal government started making
schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started. Why
would you put it out there that a group of people can't defend
themselves? That's like saying 'sic 'em' to a dog," Thweatt said in a
story published Friday on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Web site.

Barbara Williams, a spokeswoman for the Texas Association of School
Boards, said her organization did not know of another district with
such a policy. Ken Trump, a Cleveland-based school security expert who
advises districts nationwide, said Harrold is the first district with
such a policy.

Trustees approved the policy change last year.
For employees to carry a pistol, they must have a Texas license to
carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district;
must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations; and must ammunition designed to minimize the risk of ricocheting bullets.

Officials researched the policy and considered other options for about
a year before approving the policy change, Thweatt said. The district
also has other measures in place to prevent a school shooting, he said.

"The naysayers think (a shooting) won't happen here. If
something were to happen here, I'd much rather be calling a parent to
tell them that their child is OK because we were able to protect them,"
Thweatt said.

Texas law outlaws firearms at schools unless specific institutions allow them.

It isn't clear how many of the 50 or so teachers and staff members will
be armed this fall because Thweatt did not disclose that information,
to keep it from students or potential attackers.

Contradictions

I love it when people contradict themselves with out even realizing it. I stumbled across a blog recently that talked about fear and how it should not be used a a mechanism for protection.
Here is a good quote.. " I don't understand the fear of the borders."
Along with some ramblings about Homeland Security, the 9-11 event, Patriot Act and how fear is used to promote these protective type activities.

Followed by a posting on the same website that talks about network security and how to protect yourself and your network..

Is this a contradiction? I would like to think yes... Can you say flip flopper?
So, my point, here is that if you are not fearful, then why build a fire wall? No one is going to attack your network, unless they have a legitimate grievance against you!

Military Pilots

As a former military aviator, I can complain a little about my peers. Military helicopter pilots, at least on the navy side of the house are clueless when it comes to other GA type aviators in the area. The military types dont talk to anyone unless they have to and rarely are concerned for others who my be on wing. Around here, there is lots of traffic and very few military types will even request flight following while working in the haze over the bay. At night, lights will be low or off, for "tactical" considerations or NVD ops. It is only a matter of time before farmer Joe in his cessna is hit by Ice Man the helo driver.

America's Independence

The Fourth Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival...It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."

Hit and Run in the View

Well there is this very nice old jeep across the street. It just so happens while Crackerz, Crumbs and I were eating dinner on the back deck, we heard a crack and tinkle of broken glass. Crackers went to the front to see what had transpired. She did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Later in the evening, I looked around a little and noticed that the jeep's drivers side mirror had been hit. Bummer. I am sure the sailor who owns the jeep will not be happy. Ashame the driver of the hit and run did not stop and at least leave a note!! Not unusual here in the view.

Crime and Common sense...

Philadelphia Daily News

ABOUT 90 percent of the people shot in the city last year were African-American. While figures are unavailable, it is assumed by most that close to 100 percent of the perpetrators of these shootings were African-American.

Almost all the firearms used in these shootings were obtained, possessed and carried illegally by those who perpetrated the shootings. If, as is constantly claimed, we MUST DO SOMETHING to stop this violence, then why not ban African-American residents of the city from owning handguns?

The answer is that that is patently unfair and discriminatory. To judge an entire group as a problem and punish all members of that group, irrespective of their individual actions, is unconscionable.

Yet, it's deemed perfectly acceptable to discriminate against one particular group - gun owners.

Let's just tell the truth. The instant Mayor Nutter gets the right to pass gun laws for Philly, it will become a practical impossibility to own a handgun or any other weapon the city deems "inappropriate."

I've done nothing wrong, but my rights are to be removed step-by-step because others - entirely outside the law - are using guns feloniously. How is this any less outrageous a suggestion than that black people shouldn't be allowed to have guns?

Randy... Looks like your cameras saved another Norfolk resident from crime in your Ward! Thanks Keep spending our property taxes!

Norfolk police are investigating the shooting death of a man in East Ocean View.

Gunfire was reported at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 3800 block of Pleasant Avenue, said Officer Chris Amos, a police spokesman.

Police and paramedics found a man on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, he said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Security

McCain just earned a point in my corner.....

"The day that the Secret Service can assure me that if we're driving in the motorcade and there's a guy in a rooftop with a rifle, that they can stop that guy, then I'll say fine," he said. "But the day they tell me, 'Well, we can't guarantee it,' then fine, I'll take my chances."

By not having a security detail, he is saving us the tax payers $34K a day. Think about it.

Thank you Senator McCain

Capt Groovies

Crackerz, CC and I tried Capt Groovies on Shore Drive this evening. The place was busy and got busier as the evening progressed. Some general thoughts as it was our first experiance with the new joint. The place was clean, friendly and no one seemed to mind a young one in tow. The wait staff was pleseant. The food was alright. A little pricey. Crackerz had the fried shrimp which was a little too breaded, however the shecrab soup was good. The wings, we asked for hot, were not that hot, actually a little sweet and overly breaded. I had the Cuban panini which really should have seen the inside of a panini press vice a brick. The samo was good, a little greasey. The fries were not super hot, were a little over cooked and a little greasy. The ice tea and the coronas were both quite good. CC enjoyed people watching and her green beans.

Surrender your bootie!

Yar, the buccaneers are near surrender your bootie or be keel hauled!

The Angry White Man

I wish I could take credit for this one, however no such luck!! A good read none the less.
Nutz

There is a great amount of interest in this year’s presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates — a woman and an African-American — while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party’s nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain.

Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians.

There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.

His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.

The victimhood syndrome buzzwords — “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” — don’t resonate with him. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him. He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the company Christmas party, three sets of braces, three college educations or a beautiful wedding.

He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives.

The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.

The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.

His last name and religion don’t matter. His background might be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a white American.

He’s a man’s man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things. He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it took to flip that light switch.

Women either love him or hate him, but they know he’s a man, not a dishrag. If they’re looking for someone to walk all over, they’ve got the wrong guy. He stands up straight, opens doors for women and says “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am.”

He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might be a Libertarian or a Green. He knows that his wife is more emotional than rational, and he guides the family in a rational manner.

He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their race. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English.

Most important, the Angry White Man is pissed off. When his job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don’t pay taxes and his wages drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading some rally for reparations for slavery or some such nonsense, he bites his tongue and he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement.

He also votes, and the Angry White Man loathes Hillary Clinton. Her voice reminds him of a shovel scraping a rock. He recoils at the mere sight of her on television. Her very image disgusts him, and he cannot fathom why anyone would want her as their leader. It’s not that she is a woman. It’s that she is who she is. It’s the liberal victim groups she panders to, the “poor me” attitude that she represents, her inability to give a straight answer to an honest question, his tax dollars that she wants to give to people who refuse to do anything for themselves.

There are many millions of Angry White Men. Four million Angry White Men are members of the National Rifle Association, and all of them will vote against Hillary Clinton, just as the great majority of them voted for George Bush.

He hopes that she will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, and he will make sure that she gets beaten like a drum.
