What a change in events brings a new year and a new fiscal budget. It seems as though just one short year ago, the residents of Virginia Beach were screaming and complaining about the "jet noise" of the F-18s and F14s roaring over the heads of the VB residents and thier over priced beach homes. Now, these same people are bending over backwards to prevent Uncle Sugars bag of dollars from departing to friendlier and cheaper pastures.
"A lawsuit is currently being pursued by a group of Virginia Beach residents, charging that the Navy’s noise analysis prepared in support of the F/A-18 rebasing decision was inadequate and misleading. The parties have stated that they do not want the aircraft removed from Oceana, but there is the potential for some restriction to be imposed on operations that could severely diminish the base’s potential to host future systems."

Well it looks as though the people have spoken and not necessarily the people of Virginia Beach.
Being a Navy person myself, it will be a dissappointment if NAS Oceana closes. However unlike the many mom and pop stores and other businesses that benefit from the tremndous amount of financial input from Uncle Sam I will just have to roll with the flow and move where Uncle Sugar sends me.... This might just pop the housing bubble in the Tide Water when 40,000+ people move on to greener pastures....
Bottom line, be careful what you ask for you actually might get it.
