Sen. Dodd, D-Conn., slashed aviation security funding for pet constituency

Now that our attention is focused on airline security measures thanks to the failed airline attack on Christmas Day, it's worth mentioning that one senator took money away from aviation security to line the pockets of a constituency that supported his presidential campaign in a big way.
Back in July, Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., proposed an amendment reducing aviation security appropriations by $4.5 million in favor of firefighter grants -- a notoriously inneffective program. In fact, the money was specifically "for screening operations and the amount for explosives detection systems." The amendment was also sponsored by Sen. Lieberman, D-Conn., and Sen. Carper, D-Del., but Dodd deserves to be singled out here because the firefighters union is a pet constituency of his. In 2007 he campaigned all through Iowa with the firefighters union. It was one of the few distinguishable features of Dodd's ill-fated presidential bid.
The text of the amendment is below:
(Purpose: To provide additional funds for FIRE grants under section 33 of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974)
On page 77, between lines 16 and 17, insert the following:
SEC. X (a) The amount appropriated under the heading "firefighter assistance grants'' under the heading "Federal Emergency Management Agency'' under by title III for necessary expenses for programs authorized by the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 is increased by $10,000,000 for necessary expenses to carry out the programs authorized under section 33 of that Act (15 U.S.C. 2229).
(b) The total amount of appropriations under the heading "Aviation Security'' under the heading "Transportation Security Administration'' under title II, the amount for screening operations and the amount for explosives detection systems under the first proviso under that heading, and the amount for the purchase and installation of explosives detection systems under the second proviso under that heading are reduced by $4,500,000.
(c) From the unobligated balances of amounts appropriated before the date of enactment of this Act for the appropriations account under the heading "state and local programs'' under the heading "Federal Emergency Management Agency'' for "Trucking Industry Security Grants'', $5,500,000 are rescinded.

When officers will have to lead!
The U.S. Army War College warned in 2008 November warned in a monograph [click on Policypointers’ pdf link to see the report] titled “Known Unknowns: Unconventional ‘Strategic Shocks’ in Defense Strategy Development” of crash-induced unrest:
The military must be prepared, the document warned, for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States,” which could be provoked by “unforeseen economic collapse,” “purposeful domestic resistance,” “pervasive public health emergencies” or “loss of functioning political and legal order.” The “widespread civil violence,” the document said, “would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security.” “An American government and defense establishment lulled into complacency by a long-secure domestic order would be forced to rapidly divest some or most external security commitments in order to address rapidly expanding human insecurity at home,” it went on. “Under the most extreme circumstances, this might include use of military force against hostile groups inside the United States. Further, DoD [the Department of Defense] would be, by necessity, an essential enabling hub for the continuity of political authority in a multi-state or nationwide civil conflict or disturbance,” the document read.
When was the last time Congress met on Christmas Eve?
Senate is working hard since the Obama administration has come into power with 7 Saturday sessions since the inauguration? Why?

The G.W. administration only had 9 over the course of 8 years which we all know covered the worst terrorist attack on the US population in American History and of course armed conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world!

Founding Fathers
Wall Street Journal
"It's simple, really. Sometimes men aren't listening to their wives. But just as often, women aren't clear about their desires. They want men to pick up on their subtle clues, rather than telling them outright what they'd like. As one woman I know explains, "It means we are special to them if they detect what we want without us telling them."
I feel for ya buddy! If the ladies want to be subtle, use a bat! Otherwise you will get what you get. Also, encourage Victoria's Secret and Anne Taylor to provide free whiskey shots for all purchases over $50! Just imagine the "stimulation" this would create!
Don't loose too much sleep over it though, I got my wife nose hair clippers for Christmas one year and she still loves me!

NORFOLK
Police are investigating two shootings this morning that sent three people to the hospital.
The first shooting happened just after midnight in the 800 block of Johnson Ave. during an attempted robbery, said Chris Amos, police spokesman.
The man who was shot was taken to Sentara Norfolk General with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, Amos said. No suspect description was available in that case, but the man was thought to be driving a dark-colored sport utility vehicle.
About 5:45 a.m., police were called to the 600 block of E. Ocean View Ave. on a report of a shooting, Amos said.
A woman there had been shot during an argument with a man, Amos said. After the shooting, the woman and her son chased the man, took the gun and called for help.
The woman was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t considered serious and the man was treated for minor injuries, Amos said.
The man is facing a malicious wounding charge, Amos said.
Profound words from the "Dictonary" Guy
"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States." --Noah Webster

MIT Wins DARPA Network Challenge
IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 5, 2009
MIT RED BALLOON TEAM WINS DARPA NETWORK CHALLENGE
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has announced that the MIT Red Balloon Challenge Team won the $40,000 cash prize in the DARPA Network Challenge, a competition that required participants to locate 10 large, red balloons at undisclosed locations across the United States. The MIT team received the prize for being the first to identify the locations of all 10 balloons.
“The Challenge has captured the imagination of people around the world, is rich with scientific intrigue, and, we hope, is part of a growing 'renaissance of wonder' throughout the nation," said DARPA director,
Dr. Regina E. Dugan. “DARPA salutes the MIT team for successfully completing this complex task less than 9 hours after balloon launch.”
DARPA announced the Network Challenge to mark the 40th anniversary of the ARPANet, pre-cursor to today’s Internet, to explore how broad-scope problems can be tackled using social networking tools. The Challenge explores basic research issues such as mobilization, collaboration, and trust in diverse social networking constructs and could serve to fuel innovation across a wide spectrum of applications.
DARPA plans to meet with teams to review the approaches and strategies used to build networks, collect information, and participate in the Challenge.
DARPA is the central research and development organization for the Department of Defense (DoD). The Agency manages and directs research and development projects for DoD and pursues research and technology where the risk and payoff are both very high and where success may provide dramatic advances in support of military missions.
“We need a renaissance of wonder. We need to renew, in our hearts and in our souls, the deathless dream, the eternal poetry, the perennial sense that life is miracle and magic.”

You Will Pay more taxes on April 15th
Earlier this year, those of us that work, got a slight pay increase. In my case it was like $25 a pay check.
Supposedly Uncle Sugar and the Obama Administration wanted to kick start the economy and in the 2nd stimulus package, there was a small line of law giving Joe Blow the worker a slight pay increase.
Now to my understanding, this was done by manipulating your personal with holdings, you know that pesky W-4 form you are supposed to fill out when you get hired! So in all actuality, the government is not giving you a tax break per se, they are letting you have more of your money upfront before you have to pay taxes on that same money in the spring. So, if you are a smart conservative type and manage your money well, Uncle Sam pulled a fast one on you! You should expect a slightly higher tax bill come April 15th even though you thought ahead and did what was the right thing to do.
Here it comes!
By Jim Kouri
Drawing reasonable conclusions from what Holder publicly said, Deeds points out that:
* Holder wants a national, permanent gun registration system administered by law enforcement. A registration of honest citizens that have cleared the federal background check for gun purchases with those records permanently retained by and shared among law enforcement.
* Holder wants new federal authority to prohibit any person on the federal watch list (reported to be 400,000 names) from buying guns and supports confiscating guns from those on the list who posses them.
General Holder testified: "The position of the Administration is that there should be a basis for law enforcement to share information about gun purchases."
"... [It's not] inconsistent to allow law enforcement agencies to share that kind of information, for that information to be retained and then to be shared by law enforcement." "It seems incongruous to me that we would bar certain people from flying on airplanes because they are on the terrorist watch list and yet we would still allow them to posses weapons," said Holder.

Liberal Education
A teacher in New York asked her 6th grade class how many of them were Obama fans. Not really knowing what an Obama fan was, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Johnny.
The teacher asked Little Johnny why he decided to be different... again.
Little Johnny said, 'Because I'm not a Obama fan.'
The teacher said, 'Why aren't you an Obama fan?'
Little Johnny said, 'Because I'm a Republican.'
The teacher asked why was he a Republican and little Johnny answered, 'Well, my Mom's a Republican and my Dad's a Republican, so I'm a Republican.'
The teacher asks, 'If your Mom was a moron and your Dad was an idiot, what would that make you?'
With a big smile, Little Johnny replied, 'That would make me an Obama fan!'

Something to Ponder
While watching FOX news the reporter commented that the name of the shooter was now known, however they did not want to release the name because it may lead to unnecessary speculation. My wife and I looked at each other and almost in unison agreed that the shooters name was not going to be "John Smith" or any other anglo saxon combination. Shame on FOX for not delivering the news/information fair and balanced. My wife jumped on the computer and found the name of the shooter in about 25 seconds. Enshala!
Here is an interesting idea, why not allow officers and senior enlisted carry issued sidearms while on post? You would greatly increase the size and dispersion of security forces on board military installations and may reduce the chances that a lone gunman opening up on unarmed soldiers and sailors with the knowldge that lots of other will be packing.

In a year of job losses, foreclosures and bag lunches, Americans have spent record-breaking amounts of money on guns and ammunition. The most obvious sign of their demand: empty ammunition shelves.
At points during the past year, bullets have been selling faster than factories could make them.
Gun owners have bought about 12 billion rounds of ammunition in the past year, industry officials estimate. That's up from 7 billion to 10 billion in a normal year.

Why Pack heat here in Norfolk?
Mark and his wife went to the car rental place on Norview Ave. and N. Military Hwy. (Budget I think). His wife drove him there and waited out in their car until he came out with the keys to the rental. She was following him home, but got caught at a red light. Mark pulled into the parking lot of the Golden Coral at 6103 N. Military Hwy to wait for his wife.
While waiting, a car pulled up beside him, and a young man asked him if he (Mark) could give him some money. Mark kindly told him "No... not today." The youth then said something like ...then how about I come over there and get it myself...
Mike, a fellow CCW holder, lifted his 380 auto to the window and said "If you do it will be the last move you ever make." The youth smartly sped away in a cloud of dust. Smart move I'd say! Cigar Report Rocky Patel "1961"
So there I was dress up and ready to rock on Halloween. I had my princess fairy and my "Wicked" witch on each arm....
Ok, I was really in the rear with the other guys drink beers and pushing strollers loaded with more beers, the perfect time to smoke a fatty while monitoring the looting being conducted by the princess fairy and her gaggle of new friends.
Tonight's selection was another fine cigar from the Cigar Dave Officers Club Program, a Rocky Patel "1961"
Anyhow this was a good burn!
Excellent flavor, all through the smoke to include light up and endgame. Sometimes you know who the last little bit can be like smoking oak leaves. This was a good one that you wanted to burn all the way down to your finger tips.
Went well with the Yungeling I was sipping on, however the 6-7 bottles consumed may have had a little influence on my sensory system.
I would get another RP 1961 if I was out shopping for cigars, in the mean time I have quite a few to puff on in the old humidor!

Gov't take over of the internet
"Experts have for years pointed to the potential problem of Internet access during a severe pandemic, which would be a unique kind of emergency. It would be global, affecting many areas at once, and would last for weeks or months, unlike a disaster such as a hurricane or earthquake."

The thing to ponder now, how does the internet handle all of the "normal" business traffic?

This we will defend!
Any military officer worth their salt should have had a conversation amoungst their peers concerning this. When do you call a bullshit order a bullshit order and stand your ground? Pulling the trigger on the American people could end up very badly for federal troops and the government leadership. - Nutz
Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and not to any political party. In the long-standing tradition of the U.S. military, we are apolitical. We don’t care if unlawful orders come from a Democrat or a Republican, or if the violation is bi-partisan. We will not obey unconstitutional (and thus unlawful) and immoral orders, such as orders to disarm the American people or to place them under martial law. We won’t “just follow orders.” Our motto: “Not on Our Watch!” or to put it even more succinctly, in the words of 101st Airborne Commander General Anthony McAuliffe at the Battle of the Bulge, “NUTS!”
There is at this time a debate within the ranks of the military regarding their oath. Some mistakenly believe they must follow any order the President issues. But many others do understand that their loyalty is to the Constitution and to the people, and understand what that means.

The Fall of the Almighty Dollar
"The dollar slumped to a 14-month low against the euro on Wednesday, pushing the price of gold to a record high and crude oil futures above 75 dollars for the first time in a year."
So when you see prices at the pump, remember, the president controls the monetary system, well at least has a large vote by appointing the Fed Chairman. A crappy dollar means more dollars are needed to buy the same amount of oil!
And as the libs pointed out Bush controlled oil prices to help republicans so that must mean Obama now controls oil prices and he is sticking it to the poor in the form of fuel tax.. Which is at 18.5 cents per gallon.
So an average 10 gallon tank of gas is costing you a $1.85 in taxes! Multiply that by 2.28 cars per house hold and 1 ten gallon tank per car per week = $4.21 or $219.33 annually in fuel taxes per family. Assuming that there are 100 million family's in the US, total revenue from personal vehicle fuel taxes would be just shy of $22 Billion annually!
Taking a swag at the cost per mile to build a highway in the US say $2million per mile averaging of course, the Government could build 11,000 miles of new interstate in 1 year on federal fuel taxes alone. That is roughly 4 new interstates from New York to California roughly 2700 miles!
Interesting.. Anyhow I hope you like purchasing your gas in Swiss Franc!

Brady Center speaks.....
"It is a case that calls out for common sense," Brady Center attorney Daniel Vice said then. "It's ridiculous to bring a gun to a child's soccer game."
So, the Brady center must think it is also ridiculous to bring a gun to child's classroom or a center of higher learning or a National Forrest?
So, all of you police officers, leave your bullet launchers at home, it is ridiculous to bring a gun where children are present, especially you police officers at Virginia Tech, and Columbine HS Colorado, The Amish School in PA, and the school at Winnenden Germany and many others!
"Children were sitting at their tables, with pencils still in their hands, their heads fallen over on the table," said regional police director Ralf Michelfelder, describing the grisly scene that his officers found. "Most of them had shots in their head — it must have all happened in seconds."
NUTZ: Too bad the police were minutes away when seconds counted to stop this needless act of violence. Why does the Brady Center want to prevent people from being able to protect themselves from criminals?
Still not convinced, the Brady Center should also be complicent in the recent murder of two Virginia Tech students in The Jefferson National Forrest.

15. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who identified military

17. Circled the globe to publicly apologize for America's world

25. Nationalized General Motors and Chrysler while turning
shareholder control over to the unions and freezing out retired
investors who owned their bonds. Committed unlimited taxpayer
billions in the process.
26. Passed a huge energy tax in the House that will make American
industry even less competitive while costing homeowners thousands
per year.
27. Announced nationalized health care "reform" that will strip
seniors of their Medicare, cut pay of physicians, increase taxes yet
another $1 trillion, and put everyone on rationed care with
government bureaucrats deciding who gets care and who doesn't. (See
cartoon.)
Daschle says, "Health care reform will not be pain free.
Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with
age instead of treating them," while former Colorado Governor Dick
Lamm says seniors have "a duty to die."
If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that the
President, Senators and Congressmen have their own special gold

Please use the power of the Internet to get this message out. Talk
it up at the grassroots level. We have an election coming up in one
year and two months where we can reverse the dangerous direction of

A little humor to lighten the mood!
Once he discovers the cowboy is from President Bush's home area, he starts to belittle him by talking in a southern drawl and single syllable words.
As he was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head. The cowboy says, "Y'all havin' some problem with them circle flies?"
Obama stopped talking and said, "Well, yes, if that's what they're
called, but I've never heard of circle flies."
"Well Sir," the cowboy replies, "circle flies hang around ranches.
They're called circle flies because they're almost always found circling around the back end of a horse."
"Oh," Obama replies as he goes back to rambling. But, a moment later he stops and bluntly asks, "Are you calling me a horse's ass?"
"No, Sir," the cowboy replies, "I have too much respect for the citizens of this country to call their President a horse's ass."
"That's a good thing," Obama responds and begins rambling on once more.
After a long pause, the cowboy, in his best Texas drawl says, "Hard to fool them flies, though."

Bette Midler sees Civil war starting by asking Reasonable Questions in Unreasonable Times
Bette Midler Warns Glenn Beck Could Set Off a Rwanda-Like Civil War in U.S.
from NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias by Jeff Poor
It's just what the primetime cable news lineup needed - another hour-long program tilted toward left-of-center politics with character assassination on conservatives.
CNN Headline News debuted its "The Joy Behar Show" on Sept. 29, which included appearances by lefty comedian Jeanane Garofalo, CNN's Jack Cafferty and actress Bette Midler. Garofalo doubled down on her low regard for conservative 9/12 and tea party protesters, labeling them as racists. Cafferty went after President Barack Obama for his disregard of the carbon footprint his lobbying efforts in Copenhagen for Chicago to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
However, actress-turned-Vegas entertainer Bette Midler went straight after former CNN Headline News host Glenn Beck. She was prodded by host Joy Behar, who mentioned Beck as someone who is encouraging a breakdown in so-called "political discourse."
"Someone like Glenn Beck has made gazillions of dollars because he's out there being sort of hateful in many ways," Behar said. "He calls himself a clown and a comedian. Do you think it's funny?"
Midler confirmed what one would probably expect - she's not a fan of Beck at all.
"I don't think he's funny even a little bit," Midler said. "I've never had a laugh from Glenn Beck. In fact, I find him terrifying. I find him terrifying. He's like an old school demagogue, and it's really frightening."
What did Midler compare Beck to? She likened the popular Fox News host to the instigators of the Rwandan civil war, which was the catalyst for the Rwandan genocide where an estimated 800,000 to 1 million lost their lives.
"If you look around at the rest of the world and what this kind of behavior has done, like in Rwanda, where the demagogues got on the radio and fomented all that hate between the Tutsis and the Hutus and the devastation that happened from that, I mean, it's terrifying," Midler said.
According to Midler, that's a possibility in the United States.
"And that could happen, you know, you could turn on a dime," Midler warned. "That could happen here."
Behar reminded Midler the United States is a society that has free speech. However, according to Midler Beck isn't exercising free speech. He exercising hate speech she maintained.
"I don't think hate speech is so free," Midler said. "I'm not for censorship. But I also feel like, be a human being."
Behar explained basic civics to Midler - that what she deems "hate speech" is constitutionally protected. Midler blamed the education system for that sort of rhetoric.
"I think that the people who are educated to be civil are civil," Midler continued. "That's all there is to it. And people who are not educated in any way, who are just a little on the barbaric side, what can you do? But that's the fault of the education system, I think, and the way they're brought

How can politicians be so mean to the Environment?
Supposedly our Senators voted to prohibit offshore oil drilling and exploration along the Virginia coast. So we will have to continue to import oil from far off distant lands from countries that care less about their environment then we Americans do.
The Tankers which bring us the oil will spew tons of burned hydrocarbons into the air. Fish, whales, plankton and untold numbers of marine life will be killed by the tanker directly or from its wastes. All because there is the perception that drilling for oil off the coast of the United States MAY cause harm to the environment. What we are doing now is very harmful to the environment. Plus it is hard on our pocketbook. Why do people like "Environment Virginia" and our elected politicians want to hurt our environment and our pocketbooks?
"Clean beaches Sometimes little-heralded, arcane votes in Congress affect people’s lives and livelihoods more than the ones that are easier to report. Just such a vote occurred on Sept. 24 in the U.S. Senate. Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner helped save our beaches and ocean from offshore drilling damage. They defeated an effort by Big Oil and its allies to fast-track a hastily drawn Bush-era drilling plan that would have opened millions of acres of Virginia’s ocean for offshore drilling starting next year. Beachgoers, recreational fishermen, commercial fishermen, hotels, restaurants and tourism businesses all along our shores can thank Warner and Webb for keeping our coast clean and ocean healthy by defeating this measure. Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling
From the WSJ
You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.
The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.
But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits, and last year ahead of the November elections, with gasoline at $4 a gallon, Congress let a ban on offshore drilling expire.
The Bush Administration's five-year plan (2007-2012) to open the outer continental shelf to oil exploration included new lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. But in 2007 environmentalists went to court to block drilling in Alaska and in April a federal court ruled in their favor. In May, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said his department was unsure whether that ruling applied only to Alaska or all offshore drilling. So it asked an appeals court for clarification. Late last month the court said the earlier decision applied only to Alaska, opening the way for the sale of leases in the Gulf. Mr. Salazar now says the sales will go forward on August 19.
This is progress, however slow. But it still doesn't allow the U.S. to explore in Alaska or along the East and West Coasts, which could be our equivalent of the Tupi oil fields, which are set to make Brazil a leading oil exporter. Americans are right to wonder why Mr. Obama is underwriting in Brazil what he won't allow at home.
Another Rant from Big John!
Was the release timed so that there would not be a ground swell of anger in the US? Would it have made this administration look even sillier than they do now, negotiating with folks who say they want to slit your throat and burn your body?
Obama could have released the information on the second processing facility at any time. He also could have reacted to the rebellion against the mullahs in Iran just months ago. He elected not to get involved, saying that we didn't want to be seen getting involved in Iranian internal affairs. Yep, we wouldn't want to spoil the chances of getting the mullahs over to the White House for Bar-b-q and sweet tea, would we? Let me see, over the years, we captured high ranking members of the Iranian special forces in Iraq along with weapons caches literally stamped "Made in Iran." Our military commanders confirmed that Iranian-made IED's were blowing-up men and women in our military. As an after thought, Obama could have released the information about the second Iranian nuclear processing facility during the youthful revolt, but he chose not to. Why? Oh yeah, it would have made him look pretty silly, wouldn't it?
Finally, it would appear that the stage has been set for an Israeli raid on Tehran with the inevitable skyrocketing of oil prices which are bound to throw the economy into deep recession / depression. If you're a committed Marxist / Socialist, chaos is a good thing. The Israeli strike will produce a number of behind-the-lines attacks by radical Muslims in cities across America. Did we just uncover four serious plots? Obama will address the people in his best tele-prompted manner and announce that, for the good of the country, he is instituting his idea for a "National Civilian Security Force" until "normalcy" returns. If you've forgotten that speech, google Obama, 2 July 2008, speech on National Civilian Security Force. Who better to get this force kicked-off than the thousands of members of ACORN and the SEIU. Now there's a nucleus of fighting men and women for you! ACORN members with RPG's?
With Obama already seizing the automakers, banks and trying to get health care directly under his control, he will announce a number of economic policy "imperatives" after the economic chaos caused by the high oil prices that puts everything but local landscaping companies directly under government control. No, come to think of it, the SEIU will want to unionize all those folks, so that segment of the economy will be socialized as well.
We're screwed!
